Research Interest: Role of quorum sensing in the regulation of virulence factors in Staphylococcus aureus.

MFGN role: One of the missions of MFGN is to provide the facilities and funding to Mississippi scientists and students interested in life sciences and biomedical research. In this age of genomics, an important component of research is bioinformatics. The rapidly increasing amount of biological data generated necessitate the use of bioinformatics to acquire, store, organize, archive, analyze, or visualize such data. We have established a core to fulfill the bioinformatics need of Mississippi scientists and to adequately prepare students to enter the various fields of research. We have made available to all Mississippi scientists and students a bioinformatics package (GCG Wisconsin Package) that is accessible by internet. The GCG Wisconsin package is a comprehensive collection of sequence analysis programs. This software is widely used by scientist and offers a wide range of programs such as, database searching and retrieval, multiple sequence comparison, secondary structure prediction, evolution, etc. I invite you to use this software in your research or education. To learn more about the bioinformatics core or how to gain access to the software, please feel free to contact me at mohamed.elasri@usm.edu or visit mfgn.usm.edu.
